In Hebrews 4:12, The Passion Translation tells us that, "we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, and it pierces more sharply than a two-edged sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone, and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts." What power! What precision! That's why His Word must be the spiritual food that we feast on each day.

Although your word will be used as a guidepost, it's the Word of God that will transform you and guide you throughout this year and always.

For today, you're going to seek out Scriptures that align with your word. It would not be unreasonable that you might also change your word after studying Scripture as you might find a word that speaks more powerfully to you based on the scripture you selected.

Note that this is not a science, so there is no right or wrong answer. Spend time with God and listen for His voice. Then, after spending time with Him, journal what you believe He is telling you. Don't get too caught up on whether you've chosen the 'perfect' word or even Scripture. Trust God and change it if you believe that he is leading you somewhere else but don't overthink it.

Here are the Scriptures I've selected over the years based on my words.

2017 CAPACITY. 1 Chronicle 4:10, "Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, 'Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.' And God granted his request.'"

2018 SIMPLICITY. Matthew 6:33, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

2019 LIGHT. Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

2020 PROCLAIM. Proverbs 18:21, "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit."

2021 FOCUS. Luke 2:49, "And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” (I think)

Now it's your turn ...

Action Steps

Now that you have your word for the year, it's time to ground it in the Word of God. If you have not already done so, take some time and seek out what the Bible says about your word. I believe that it's actually the Scripture more so than your actual word that will have the most impact throughout this year.

It's your Scripture verse (God's Word) that will guide you through the year, speak to your heart, minister to you, and offer support, hope, or motivation so you can live out your year with purpose and direction.

Based on the word you selected, seek out an appropriate Scripture verse. Start by reading a few of them and select the one that you feel most resonates with you.

Reflect

1.  Study the Scripture you have selected. Who is speaking? Who are they speaking to? When was it written? Why was it written? What is the context?

2.  How does this Scripture apply to your life?

3.  How does this Scripture apply to your health journey?

4.  Does the Scripture inspire you? Scare you? Motivate you? How do you feel about it at this present time?

Worship and Prayer

Your Word - Hillsong Worship

"Lord, I thank you for your Word. It is a lamp for my feet that lights a path that I am determined to follow. Your Word is my daily bread; it is my food. I'm excited about the prospect of living out your Word this year, but I must admit that I am also a bit apprehensive. Keep your Word alive in me and help me live it out each day of this year. I know that it's only your Word that has the power to transform me. It's active and alive, and its power searches my heart and reveals its inner truths. I need that, Lord, and I look forward to how you will work in me this year through your Word. In your name, I pray. Amen!"

My scripture focus is Prov. 3:6 “in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:6‬ ‭NIV‬‬. I will flash this out by linking it to Romans 12:1-2 as my model of application. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Ezekiel 16:7 ‘And I helped you to THRIVE like a plant in a field. You grew up and became a beautiful jewel.’

My word is Thrive – this verse gives me great comfort, but it also shows me just how much God wants to help me with this walk of mine, that He wants to be there along the way – I just need to let Him lead!

My word for the year is Transformation. My theme scripture is:
2 Corinthians 3:18 The Voice
Now all of us, with our faces unveiled, reflect the glory of the Lord as if we are mirrors; and so we are being transformed, metamorphosed, into His same image from one radiance of glory to another, just as the Spirit of the Lord accomplishes it.
